Porsche Mission S previews a super sports car above the 911

Porsche showed the Mission S vision model in New York on October 15. It points to a permanent mid-engine car that will sit above the 911.

Porsche has shown what its next top sports car could look like. The Mission S is a vision model, not a production car. It made its world premiere on October 15, 2026, on a pier in Queens, New York, with Manhattan behind it.

The place was chosen with care. Porsche says the first photos of the 550 Spyder were taken on the same pier in 1953. The 550 was the brand’s first super sports car, and it helped Porsche grow in the United States.

What Porsche actually announced

The bigger news is the plan behind the car. Porsche says it is developing a new mid-engine super sports car platform that will sit above the 911. For the first time, a car at this level will be a permanent part of the range. Porsche says it will not be a one-off hypercar.

The Mission S is part of a company strategy called “Sportwagenschmiede ’35”. Porsche says the ideas in this car will shape its models in the coming years.

A design built from old icons

Porsche lists a long set of older models behind the shape. From the 911 come the round headlights and the raised “torpedo” fenders. The G model 911 gave the idea for shut lines that flow into the lights. The GT1 racer inspired two things: the low, flat front and the “car in car” look at the rear. For the 959, the link is the roofline that sits under the rear wing.

Other details look back too. The cooling design borrows from the radiator fan of the 917. The rear wing is active and built into the body. The wheels rework a “dial” style inspired by the 928.

A cabin with fewer screens

Inside, the idea is simple: the driver comes first. There is no fixed center screen and no fixed passenger screen. A retractable holder takes the driver’s own phone, using MagSafe, when it is needed.

Behind the wheel sit five round dials, a layout Porsche calls characteristic. The rev counter sits in the middle with a real needle. In Porsche tradition, the key holder sits left of the wheel. The show car uses new colors called Firn White Metallic, Light Red Metallic and Black Chrome.

“The Mission S is the result of a forward-looking, holistic design strategy.”

Tobias Sühlmann, Vice President Style Porsche

What we do not know yet

Porsche has not given a price, a launch date or power figures. Porsche told Car and Driver the production car will offer gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid power, with no full EV. It has not named a specific engine.

What is clear is the direction. Porsche wants a car above the 911 that stays in the range, and the Mission S is the first look at how it may appear.
